Streetline Book by Dave Klein · $24
In 2024 I began carrying a camera with me. No, not an iPhone. A camera. A real camera. An object you raise to your eye, exhale, and depress. I started with a Leica D-Lux 7 but quickly moved past the allure of its red circle and transitioned to a Ricoh GR IIIx. The Ricoh is packed with features and customizations, yet it feels approachable with its compact size and limited hardware controls.
I am drawn to strong lines, long shadows, and nondescript moments that feel dynamic when frozen in time. I lean towards the black and white aesthetic to force the eye into a focused state, and to explore the tension between simplicity and complexity.
The book was meticulously designed in Figma. The typeface is Söhne from Klim Type Foundry, and the design was inspired by Swiss designers like Josef Müller-Brockmann, whose lessons in grids and typography have helped me unlock creativity time and time again.
The book has 39 photos of people and architecture shot in San Francisco (although one is in Cupertino). Order a copy for a coffee table or bookcase as a conversation starter and to support this endeavor. Thank you!
